After my bar mitzvah, I stopped thinking about religion; I had graduated from it. I never concerned myself with what anyone's religion might be. It's never been a topic of much conversation. I realized that my life was fine without organized religion. I like the history of being Jewish, but not in the way of belonging to a club. Being Jewish doesn't constitute my identity. As a part of overall human history, Judaism has a fascinating story behind it, with perhaps more peaks and valleys than most. But I think it's possible to be proud of one's background while recognizing that it's no more or less important than anyone else's.
