"Was there a crack in the toilet bowl in the basement bathroom? Or had the toilet been replaced?" I asked.

"Yeah, a big crack," Molly confirmed.

Matt stared at me, open-mouthed. "How could you know that?"

"I don't know," I said, shivering. "I'm just seeing it from some strange perspective that I can't identify. There were stains in the chipped toilet that you could never get out."

"Yeah," Matt said.

"We tried. Mom tried. We'd wash it and wash it. It was weird."
